¿Un dinosaurio viral? No, ¡es una increíble tortuga albina!

Más de uno había llegado a pensar que se trataba de un dinosaurio, pero ¡no! La imagen que se ha hecho viral esta semana es la de una sorprendente tortuga albina.

Y es que el albinismo en los animales no deja de viralizarse en Internet. Mike Aquilina, un amante de las mascotas acuáticas conocido en Instagram por su perfil AquaMike, ha presentado recientemente a una tortuga albina con un cuello taaaaaan largo que muchos lo han asociado con un dinosaurio.

Según explicó, el animal es una tortuga de caparazón blando de Florida, una especie conocida por su largo cuello, pero con la peculiaridad de que es albina.

Otra tortuga albina de vientre rosado nació hace aproximadamente un año con su corazón latiendo fuera de su cuerpo. AquaMike se encargó de cuidarla y decidió llamarla Hope. Hope se convirtió en una sensación en Internet y AquaMike comenzó a utilizar Instagram para actualizar sobre su estado y evolución periódicamente a sus miles de seguidores.

Y ahora, de nuevo, con la tortuga de cuelo kilométrico, AquaMike ha vuelto a acaparar la atención de los usuarios de Instagram. Aún se le busca nombre al animalillo. A diferencia de otras criaturas albinas, las tortugas albinas generalmente tienden a ser amarillas o anaranjadas. Tendrían que llamarse amelanísticas porque la melanina es el pigmento que les falta. Al igual que en el albinismo, la falta de pigmento afecta a todas las áreas del cuerpo, incluido los iris del ojo. Esto no quiere decir que ninguna tortuga sea blanca por albinismo, sino que es más raro.

Los animales albinos pueden presentar diferentes problemas de salud como una visión deficiente, con el peligro que supone ante los depredadores, y la dificultad añadida para encontrar alimentos.

Muchos de los animales albinos no sobreviven a su etapa de cría. Sin embargo, en el caso de las tortugas, la protección que les proporciona su caparazón sirve para que se reduzca el riesgo con respecto al de otros animales.
