Una modelo de 26 años, en la piel de una anciana

Trabaja como modelo, tiene 26 años pero es diferente a todas sus compañeras, porque vive en una piel que no es la habitual para su joven edad. Se llama Sara Geurts y padece una enfermedad rara que se conoce como Síndrome de Ehlers-Danlos. Se trata de una enfermedad genética hereditaria que se caracteriza por un funcionamiento inadecuado de las enzimas que sintetizan el colágeno, la proteína encargada de mantener unidos los tejidos del organismo.

Por ello, Sara, a pesar de ser una veinteañera, parece vivir en la piel de una mujer anciana. Y es que las personas afectadas por este síndrome suelen presentar hiperlaxitud articular, hiperextensibilidad de la piel (piel que se estira y se daña fácilmente) y fragilidad de los tejidos.

La joven modelo sufre el grado más elevado de la enfermedad, de hecho, solo se conocen ocho casos en el mundo, según publica Canarias en Red. Según este digital, cuando cumplió 22 años empezó a ver su cuerpo como «algo único en el mundo».
